About

SOK works on molecular evolution of endangered species and their pathogens. Until recently he had been coordinating the AMNH DNA Barcoding Initiative for Conservation. He is interested in conservation genetics and its applications in management and policy, as well as in ways for evolutionary theory to inform molecular epidemiological studies in pathogens such as tuberculosis and rapidly-evolving viruses. He is a member of the NY Plant Genomics Consortium (NYU, NYBG, AMNH, CSHL) working on plant phylogenomics. He collaborates with the University of Barcelona on evolutionary genomics.
